“When given the opportunity, you do good and never look back.”
– Joe Monti, friend
Amos Raymond
Amos Raymond is a well rooted physician in the Memphis community where he has practiced for nearly two decades. He serves our nation’s veterans at the VA Medical Center and our patients in the community affected by mental illness and drug addiction through his relationships with various other hospitals. He admits that through his journey of experiences and relationships with patients representing diverse walks of life, he has been afforded keen insight to the human condition and a profound sense of humility, empathy and stewardship to community.
The Brooklyn native found his way to Atlanta where he graduated with a B.S. in Biology from Emory University and was attracted to the University of Tennessee medical school after meeting a group of UT medical students at a pre-med society meeting. He specifically cites that seeing other African Americans on their journey to becoming physicians, left an indelible sense of hope and enthusiasm which helped to fuel his drive into the same space. That and other similar experiences helped to convict him of the belief that young people must see themselves in the future they pursue. This has also helped shape his sense of duty to volunteerism and community outreach.
Still amazed at what can happen with a little bit of dreaming and a lot of hard work, he tells of his life,
“I’m living a fairy tale… I have a jewel of a spouse, two beautiful & boisterous angels for daughters and a career I love. Memphis has truly become my home.”
In his free time, he enjoys hunting for new music, political talk radio, an exquisite steak with plenty of savory veggies, cycling but most of all, he loves spending what he calls “we-time” with his wife doing whatever’s clever.
